Extra frames seems to be the norm for Chesaning’s Varsity Softball Team in this early season. After playing a 9 inning affair with Byron on Monday, the Lady Indians played host to the Raiders from Flushing and won an 11 inning marathon game 7-6. After some early game scoring, a run in the 1st and 4 in the 2nd, Taylor Gross held the visitors in check for the next 8 innings before plating a run in the top of the 11th. Chesaning who scored 2 runs in the 1st, a run in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th before getting shut down the next 6 innings. The Indians fought back coming up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 11th to win the game. Jordyn Bishop tied the game with a double scoring Skylar Walser from first base and then after Riley Dotson reached on an error moving Bishop to third, Paige Ginderske lined a single to CF scoring Bishop to plate the winning run. The Indians were led by Erica Barta who had 2 doubles, a walk and scored 2 runs, Haylei Drope with 2 hits scored a run and stole 2 bases, Jordyn Bishop with 2 hits with a double a walk and game tying RBI and Paige Ginderske also with 2 hits a double and game winning RBI. Taylor Gross pitched all 11 innings giving up 10 hits 6 runs 2 earned 7 walks and 13 strikeouts. “It was a cold, cold evening much different then the great weather we had Monday night, but the girls didn’t give up and fought and fought to get the victory! Very proud of these girls in the early season, they are finding was to win and that’s great to see!” The Indians are 3-0 over all and 2-0 in conference play and host Fenton on Friday.
