Soccer (Boys V)

Chesaning split the weeks games

By Emily Tyner | Sep 25, 2026 7:27 AM

Chesaning boys varsity soccer showed what a team mentality should look like and came away with a one goal loss to the first placed league leaders and a 3-1 win Birch Run redeeming themselves from a 4-1 loss earlier this month. With a middle field battle versus Ovid Elsie and holding them to one goal in the first half and Seth Maynard scoring (assist by Oliver Keck) one to make it 1-1, Chesaning showed they could play with anyone in their league. The Ovid Elsie pounded the back line, but the response was rejection and discipline. Ovid Elsie broke through toward the final 8 minutes of the game after Chesaning getting multiple shots on their goal as well, to make it 2-1. CHS kept their best score against Ovid Elsie in two years Tuesday night. Thursday night saw Parker Kohagen coming down the sideline hitting crosses that put the fear into Birch Run. The scoring started with Oliver Keck striking a shot after a team effort moving the ball towards the goal. Oliver Keck saw an opening and fired it cleanly into the goal to score Chesaning’s first goal. The second goal was a penalty kicked awarded to Seth Maynard after his run into the box brought him down with a push from behind. Oliver Keck stepped up and slid the ball right past the keeper as he dove to the right. The third goal, came after a full team effort defensively and a quick transition to the offense for Oliver to slot away the ball into the net with an assist from Adrian Eaton. Birch Run came out in the second half and showed they wanted to compete and scored a single goal, in which the Indians responded with solid organization and communication. The second half resulted in runs from Jackson Niewiadomski and Layne Niewiadomski putting pressure on the Birch Run Defense. Dominic Carvalho, Ezra Rodriguez and Parker Heckman all contributed in the final third of the field working to get shots off. With an overall team effort, and leadership from the Seniors, the CHS Indians beat Birch Run 3-1 for this first win of the season. Chesaning has one final scheduled home game versus Lakeville, Senior Night For Oliver Keck, Jackson Niewiadomski and Parker Kohagen on October 6, at 6pm. Come out and watch this senior class lead their team with the mentality they have developed their whole life playing sports. Resilience, Grit, Humility, Discipline and Dedication.
